Founded in 1831, Xavier University is a Jesuit Catholic University in Cincinnati, Ohio, annually ranked among the nation’s best private universities. Our four colleges offer 90+ undergraduate majors, 60+ minors and 40+ graduate programs to approximately 6,500 total students, including 300+ veteran and military-affiliated students. Driven by our commitment to the common good and to the education of the whole person, the Xavier community challenges and supports students as they cultivate lives of reflection, compassion and informed action. The University has a long history of supporting veteran and military-affiliated students, dating back to 1877, and has continued until today. Xavier’s current commitment is seen through our Student Veterans Center and our participation in the Yellow Ribbon Program. Xavier University has no restrictions on funding available through the Yellow Ribbon Program, therefore if qualified, students are able to attend our great institution with no out of pocket tuition or fee costs. In addition to the benefits available our Student Veterans Center is another differentiator when it comes to the level of support we are able to provide. Our mission statement says it all:
The Xavier University Student Veterans Center provides personalized world-class support to enhance the educational experience of military affiliated students that results in unconditional success in the classroom and beyond.
Our Student Veterans Center team of 5 full time staff members are all veterans or military spouses themselves and represent all four of the major military branches. The services provided by the Student Veterans Center include a dedicated Veterans Admissions Counselor, Benefits Advisor, Success Coach, and Career Coach. As of fall of 2021, Xavier's student veterans and military affiliated students have a 100% success rate. We have been recognized by U.S. News and World Report as a top school for Veterans in the Midwest (most recently as #2) and by Military Friendly® as a military friendly designated college (most recently as a Gold: Top Ten school).
Some of the more popular programs amongst our veteran and military affiliated population are Nursing, Accounting, Computer Science, Biology, Criminal Justice, Exercise Science, Human Resources Management, Psychology and Finance. In light of COVID-19 some courses have been transitioned to a hybrid format, but under normal circumstances classes are all in person with an average faculty to student ratio of 12:1. The small class size is one of the biggest differentiating factors for our university, providing every student with access to outstanding support. Another significant factor, especially for those service members who have not set foot in a college classroom in many years or ever, is our Academic Support office. This feature is truly unique to Xavier, students are able to request a personal one on one tutor for any class they are taking at Xavier at no cost.
